The government's decision to increase the VAT to 25.5 percent may cause work for the company. This is the first time in Finland that decimal numbers are used in VAT. Although modern systems are likely to support this change, older versions may show changes. If the system processes VAT as a whole number, the processing of decimal numbers naturally does not work.

Companies must be ready for the change when it comes into effect and make sure that the systems work. Our experienced experts have carried out similar projects successfully several times, some even since the euro conversion. 

Going through the systems is not enough, the company must also make sure of all the interfaces that are used to transfer VAT information. The old ALV 24% can also be used in the titles of printouts from the systems, in which case they must also be changed to conform to the new ALV 25.5%. The functionality of the system should be tested in the entire ecosystem well in advance, even before the change takes effect.

In addition to using decimals, the company must make sure of the change in the tax rate for long deliveries. If the product is delivered or the service is performed before the tax rate increase, but invoiced only after the increase, the company must be able to apply the old tax rate. Not all systems can do this automatically.
